The late Tanzanian President, John Magufuli has been buried in his home town of Chato in the country’s north-western region of Geita.
The body of the late president arrived at Rubambagwe Stadium mid-morning and the requiem mass was conducted by the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) president, Archbishop Gervas John Nyaisonga.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan and former presidents Ali Hassan Mwinyi and Jakaya Kikwete, were among other dignitaries in attendance.
President Magufuli died on the 17th of March, from heart complications at Mzena Hospital, and current President Samia Suluhu announced his death on the same day.
He was the fifth president of Tanzania and becomes the first leader of the counrty to die while in office.
Dr Magufuli will be remembered for putting emphasis on accountability of public expenditure and proper supervision of government projects.
He vigorously campaigned for the removal of illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the west when he was the SADC Chair between 2019 and 2020.
