Suspension of June exams ‘good move’ – educationists

Educationists have applauded government for suspending the ZIMSEC June Ordinary and Advanced level examinations as a result of disruptions caused by Covid-19.

Cabinet recently approved the suspension of the ZIMSEC June O and A level examinations following disruptions of the school calendar as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is against this background that educationists say the position adopted by the government will reduce pressure on the examination body since sitting of public examinations at the end of last year was delayed by the pandemic.

“The move by the government is welcome since it will help to decongest the Zimsec marking system,” said educationist, Dr Tapera Chikandiwa.

Another renowned educationist, Dr Cleopas Kundiona, said, “It is a good move since the whole education sector was greatly affected by the covid-19 pandemic.

The Covid-19 pandemic caused alterations of the school calendar which also resulted in schools closing for the first two and half months of this year.
