A 30-year old suspected serial killer, Bright Zhantali who is facing nine counts of murder appeared in court this Monday, with police applying for further detention to complete investigations.

Zhantali, who was arrested this Saturday, appeared before Marondera magistrate Patience Chirimo who granted the warrant for further detention until the 24th of this month as police continue with investigations into the nine counts of murder he is facing.

The offences were committed between January and March this year in Marondera and surrounding areas, including Macheke and Wedza.

In Marondera, Zhantali is linked to the murder of a 44- year-old Pastor Nelia Maringe, who was killed in Grasslands and 61- year-old Gogo Meggie Kaomba of Dombotombo, who was raped before being murdered on the 11th of this month.

The accused allegedly lured some of his victims from bars and night clubs in Marondera and Wedza after proposing love to them.

The victims include Mercy Simali of Marondera whom he allegedly raped and killed on the 15th of January, 40- year-old Chipo Gwese of Wedza on the 20th of January, Betty Mlambo on the 23rd of January and Patricia Tsoka of Dombotombo on the 12th of March.

Zhantali is also alleged to have killed an unidentified lady he had met at a night club in Nyameni in early February and raped her before he strangled her to death.

He allegedly threw the body into a nearby stream with the body only being discovered after he was arrested.

Zhantali also claims to have killed a lady who was reported missing in Macheke where the woman’s remains were found.
