Suspected machete-wielding gang in the dock for murder

Members of a Machete wielding gang who allegedly attacked and injured a man from Shurugwi at a local bar have appeared in court facing charges of attempted murder.

It is the State’s case that the trio of Charles Chingwaya aged 29, Tafadzwa Rundora (31) and Philbert Chingwaya (22) on 29 May last year attacked Simon Vingirai who was playing snooker at Chief Ndanga bar in Shurugwi using machetes and knives.

Allegations are that Charles Chingwaya who was armed with an axe charged towards the complainant and struck him once on the back of the head.

The other two allegedly joined in, assaulting Vingirai with machetes and knives, claiming that he was having an extra marital affair with Chingwaya’s wife.

The trio fled the scene after noticing that the complainant was seriously injured and had collapsed.

Vingirai was taken to the hospital and a police report was filed, leading to the trio’s arrest.

The suspects, who appeared in court this Monday, are out on 10 000 Zimbabwe dollars bail each and will be back in court on the 28th of this month for continuation of trial.
