Suspected fraudsters to spend weekend in the dock

THREE Harare men who allegedly defrauded an unsuspecting complainant of ZWL$14 million in a botched fuel scam have appeared in court.

32-year-old Nyasha Mutasa, Noel Chinyuku(47) and 51-year-old Elfigio Murwira, who are facing fraud charges will spend the weekend in remand prison pending their bail ruling on Monday.

The State opposed bail for the trio, arguing that they are not proper candidates as they are likely to abscond trial due to the serious nature of their offence.

The defence, however, argued that the three were of fixed aboard and would stand trial as they want to clear their names.

Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda is expected to give her ruling on Monday.

It is alleged that the trio failed to provide fuel after the complainant had paid for 37 500 litres of diesel.
