Sungura musician Romeo Gasa is on a drive to modernise the genre by introducing elements that will see sungura appealing to all age groups.
The musician, who is set to release his 8th album “Phone Yababa Imhiripiri” this Saturday, says the 11-track album which features the title track and other songs like “Happy Day”, and “Long Distance Love”, is set to revolutionise the sungura beat.
“My album Phone Yababa Imhiripiri introduces a new sungura beat which incorporates instruments like a saxophone. I want sungura to appeal to all ages including the young ones. Songs on the album Phone Yababa Imhiripiri speak on social issues which include love,” he said.
The album launch is set for this Saturday at Long Cheng and will see musicians like Baba Harare, Carlos Green and Andy Muridzo sharing the stage with the Extra Valembe frontman.
