GLOBAL banking giant, Standard Chartered Bank has come up with a one million United States dollar golden handshake for programmes to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in Zimbabwe.

The massive donation which is the largest financial injection by a corporate entity towards COVID-19 relief initiatives in the country will be critical to accelerate response programmes to cushion hard-hit areas.
According to Standard Chartered Bank Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ralph Watungwa, the focus will be on education and health care.

“We have come up with a 1-million-dollar donation which will be channelled towards education and health. We will be working with IRC. So, we have distributed these funds in 2 phases and this should be critical to cushion thousands of families affected by Covid-19,” he said.

The Standard Chartered Bank funding package comes to buttress humanitarian initiatives the financial institution has rolled out across the country through a pledge for long term partnerships that will benefit communities.

“We have actually worked in a number of areas over the years. We are also looking at a number of options to pursue as we continue working with the government on humanitarian programmes,” he said.

Here to Stay…so reads the financial institution’s vision as it pledges to continue working with the country in various social and developmental programmes.
