Stakeholders meet ahead of start of 16 Days of Activism Against GBV

Members of Parliament drawn from various constituencies, the civil society and diplomatic community are meeting for a dialogue session in commemoration of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence which begins tomorrow.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the commemorations to mark the 16 Days Of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which is commemorated from November 25 to December 10 each year.

Panelists, who include the Zimbabwe Gender Commission, Zimbabwe Republic Police, Musasa Project, Chiefs’ Council as well as the Zimbabwe Women Lawyers Association exchanged notes on how the COVID-19 pandemic induced lockdowns resulted in an increase in gender-based violence amid calls for perpetrators to be held accountable.

According to Musasa Project 20 000 cases of gender based violence were recorded in 2019, with the number doubling to 40 000 in 2020.
