EMPLOYERS across the country are pinning their hopes of improved production this year on stable costs and supplies of fuel, water and electricity.
Employers fear unstable supplies of key enablers or utilities that sustain production will have negative effects in improving output and competitiveness.
Speaking on the sidelines of a human capital management indaba on Saturday, Employers Confederation of Zimbabwe (EMCOZ), president Dr Israel Murefu said despite availability of skilled people in the country stable supplies and costs of water, fuel and electricity will guarantee an increased output that can save the nation millions of dollars in forex.
“ It is a real key cause for concern that we all need to focus and address otherwise we cannot focus on any other meaningful development for the nation without affordable utility costs and improved supplies,” said DR. Murefu
There is also a need to ensure maximum use of available natural resources to ensure that the nation can derive benefits from the skilled labour, notes the Institute of People’s Management of Zimbabwe President Dr Phil Chitagu.
“ It is all to do with what can be done to ensure the nation can get the relevant benefits which can translate into a fully-fledged or resourced economy,” Dr Chitagu said.
According to a report released at the indaba, Zimbabwe is sitting on over an estimated half a million skilled personnel that can be used to turnaround the economy.
