The Sri-Lanka cricket side that will face Zimbabwe in a test series that begins on Sunday arrived in the country Thursday evening with the tourists confident of upsetting the hosts.
A strong 15-man squad touched down at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport this Thursday evening ahead of two test matches against Zimbabwe which are scheduled for Harare Sports Club.
With Sri-Lanka touring Zimbabwe on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Pakistan in December, the Asians are clear about intentions of returning to winning ways when they clash with the Chevrons.
“It was obviously not great losing to Pakistan but I think this is an opportunity for us to do good by overcoming Zimbabwe in both games. We really need to be in good form as this is an important tour for us”.
Though optimistic Sri-Lanka’s captain says Zimbabwe should not be taken lightly.
“It is never easy playing against Zimbabwe which is a good side. We cannot underestimate them because they are a good team. Conditions may be a bit different from when we last toured so we just have to be prepared for whatever comes our way when we play them,” said Sri-Lanka Cricket Team Captain, Dimuth Karunaratne.
Sri-Lanka made just one change to their team which toured Pakistan with Kusal Perera dropped while Suranga Lakmal makes a return.
The first of two tests pitting Zimbabwe and Sri-Lanka gets underway this Sunday with the second test set to begin on 27 January.
The two matches will be played at Harare Sports Club.
Sri-Lanka faces a Zimbabwean side which last played a Test match in November 2018 when it toured Bangladesh.
