Sports journalists honoured

THE Sports Journalists Association — Northern Region (Spoja-N) continues to honour the most outstanding sportswriters after successfully hosting the annual excellence awards in Harare this Friday.
The awards ceremony celebrated professional excellence of Journalists who have done outstanding work throughout the year in the print, electronic, multimedia as well as video and photography. This is in line with one of Spoja-Ns key objectives of honouring media practitioners for their contribution to the development of sport in Zimbabwe.
Sport journalists were urged to not only report on the activities on the ground but also on the business aspect of different sport codes which are on the table.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Spoja-N awards, the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists President Michael Chideme urged sports journalists desist from censoring themselves when reporting as they are the eyes of the society.
“Sports journalists must also be able to look at the business side of things in the world of sports rather than just match reports. Journalists are a critical component and so they must report on all issues that surround the beautiful games they love,” he said.
SPOJA-N chairman, Ian Zvoma reiterated that journalists should tell real stories, and ensure they maintain professionalism when reporting.
