Raza banned by ICC

Story by Raynald Ngwarati

ZIMBABWE’S limited overs skipper Sikandar Raza has been handed a two-match suspension by the International Cricket Council and will miss the remaining T20 international fixtures against Ireland.

The sanction by the cricket governing body comes after Raza breached the ICC Code of Conduct.

Raza aggressively charged towards the Ireland duo of Josh Little and Curtis Campher while pointing his bat and breaking away from the umpire who had tried to calm the situation during the first match between the two sides at Harare Sports Club on Thursday.

Raza was then fined 50 percent of his match fee and received two demerit points.

The two demerit points took his tally to four points within a the space of 24-months, resulting in him being barred from playing a couple of matches.

Consequently, veteran all-rounder Sean Williams will stand in as Zimbabwe’s skipper for the remaining two T20I matches against Ireland this afternoon and tomorrow.
