SK saluted for great deeds

People from Bulawayo, Matabeleland South and North Provinces gave the late National Hero, Cde Simon Khaya Moyo a befitting farewell during a funeral service held at the Amphitheatre in Bulawayo this Saturday morning.

A man of the people who conquered with a smile, a man who blended well with the ordinary, the youth and elderly will forever be cherished.

These were the words of mourners who attended the funeral service in honour of Cde Simon Khaya Moyo in Bulawayo this Saturday morning.

“This is a huge blow for us all, SK was dear to everyone. We came here to salute him and say farewell Cde SK, we are in pain .As youths we have lost a friend, he would come down to our level and engage us. We looked up to him in many.SK will always be in our memory. He was a great statesman who emphasised unity in all times,” said a mourner.

The Chief Mourner who is also Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Abednico Ncube said the nation is in shock following the demise of a great statesman who tirelessly worked for national prosperity.

“There are many things we learnt from his life. As we mourn we will draw strength from his contributions,” he said.

After an emotionally packed service, the body of Cde SK Moyo was taken to Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport where it was airlifted to Harare.

The National Hero will lie in state in Harare ahead of his burial on Monday at the National Shrine.
