Sikhala placed on remand, to stand trial

CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator Job Sikhala has been officially placed on remand for obstructing the course of justice after he allegedly told mourners at Moreblessing Ali’s funeral that she was kidnapped and murdered by ZANU PF supporters.

In his ruling, Harare Regional magistrate Stanford Mambanje noted that there is reasonable cause to place Sikhala on remand as the alleged utterances had potential to derail investigations into Moreblessing Ali’s murder.

He also noted that facts of the matter are clearly different from the other charge of inciting public violence that he is facing; hence the State had to split the charges.

The State opposed bail, arguing that Sikhala cannot be trusted with his freedom pending trial as he has the propensity to commit similar offenses.

The presiding magistrate is yet to make a decision in the application as the State and defense are expected to continue with their submissions this Friday.
