Service station loses US$382 000 to armed robbers

TWO suspected armed robbers who allegedly robbed a Harare service station of more than US$380 000 dollars appeared in court this Wednesday facing charges of armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.

The two suspects, Tawanda Gawu aged 34 and 27-year-old Joseph Bilson Makoni appeared before Harare Magistrate Mrs Yeukai Dzuda this Tuesday.

The duo is alleged to have stormed ZX Fuels armed with rifles and tied up the security guards and fuel attendants before blasting two safes and getting away with the cash.

The pair which used stolen guns to commit the robbery has been remanded in custody.

Meanwhile, a suspected fraudster who is believed to be part of the ZWL14 million fuel scam that saw three other suspects appearing in court last week has been nabbed.

Misheck Gatsi aged 39 appeared in court this Tuesday facing charges of fraud and money laundering.

It is alleged that the accused received funds from his alleged accomplices which he used to purchase property.

In another matter, a 34-year-old man who allegedly raped his four- year-old daughter has been remanded in custody and advised to apply for bail at the High Court after appearing in court this Tuesday.

The court heard that the man sent his wife packing after the couple had a misunderstanding, but demanded custody of their daughter whom he went to rape on a daily basis.

It is the State’s case that when the couple reconciled the mother noticed changes in the four-year-old who narrated how she was abused by her father.
