Zanu PF Vice President and Second Secretary, Cde Kembo Mohadi says the new dispensation is committed to fulfilling its promises with the Beitbridge-Chirundu road one of the priorities.

Cde Mohadi was this Tuesday on an assessment tour of the completed part of the Harare-Beitbridge stretch in Masvingo, where he noted how the project is strategic in the country’s quest to facilitate smooth flow of traffic and goods along the North and South Corridor.

“We have been talking about this road for many years but with the coming in of the New Dispensation this is where we are. This road is very important especially for trade purposes as it connects us to our trade partners,” he said.

Apart from the Harare-Beitbridge project, a lot has been done to refurbish other roads in Masvingo through the Emergency Roads Rehabilitation programme.

Masvingo Provincial Roads Engineer Robert Mukome said: “For the Harare-Beitbridge road rehabilitation programme, in Masvingo province 100 km of the targeted 274 km have been completed. However, we benefitted from the Emergency Roads Rehabilitation Programme after many of our roads were damaged by rains.”

“As a province we are excited that we are benefiting from a number of programmes by the government. Our children are being employed as they conduct road works,” said Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Honourable Ezra Chadzamira.

The completion of Beitbridge-Harare-Chirundu Highway will contribute towards the attainment of goals spelt out in the National Development Strategy 1 and Vision 2030 at the same time giving impetus to SADC’s Regional Development Master Plan.
