THE SADC Senior Officials Virtual Organ Troika Summit Plus Force Intervention Brigade- Troop Contributing countries (FIB-TC) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Summit chaired by Zimbabwe has kicked off in Harare this Tuesday.
In his opening remarks this Tuesday, Chairperson of the Senior Officials Meeting, Ambassador James Manzou, who is Zimbabwe’s Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Affairs underscored the need for SADC to unite in tackling the bloc’s challenges.
SADC’s position in relation to the United Nations decision to review the configuration of the force Intervention brigade in the DRC by repatriating one FIB battalion to create space for the inclusion of non-SADC countries which include India, Pakistan and Guatemala with jungle warfare capabilities came under the spotlight.
The meeting also discussed the region’s position to have a coordinated and coherent approach to achieve peace and security in the Eastern DRC and the Force Intervention Brigade member countries.
The virtual meeting was attended by SADC region security chiefs and Zimbabwe was represented by Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces General Phillip Valerio Sibanda.
