Sables get US$120 000 sponsorship from Nedbank

THE Zimbabwe Rugby Union has signed a one year sponsorship deal with Nedbank to support the senior national team in their quest to qualify for the 2023 World Cup in France.
The One Hundred and Twenty thousand United States dollar sponsorship package is valid for a year and comes as a major boost as the Zimbabwe Sables embark on another world cup qualifying campaign.
“As the Sables embark on 5he journey to qualify for the world cup we want to make it smooth, we aspire to seed more in sport and we take rugby to the people, everyone must have a chance to play for the nation,” said Heresy Herry, Nedbank Executive Head Sales & Origination.
With the sport landscape evolving, Zimbabwe Rugby aspires to advance in the same manner.
“Rugby has changed, the Supersport challenge opened our eyes gone are the days we would go into camp 2 days before a match, we need to properly prepare.
Rugby is no longer an elite sport, now it has gone to Sahumani its being played in the dusty streets of Mbare, we actually aim to beat soccer in terms of viewership,” said Losson Mtongwiza, ZRU Vice Chairperson.
The Sables Trust which is managing the affairs of the national team has already brought in experienced professionals in Brendon Mudzekenyedzi, Jason Robertson and Doug Jusyzky, among others.
The Sables will take on Zambia on Wednesday next week, before playing Namibia in composite friendlies as they prepare for the World Cup Qualifiers which get underway in July.
