Roads rehabilitation programme gathers momentum

THE rehabilitation of the country’s road network is gathering momentum with government attending to 35 roads in Harare alone under the Emergency Roads Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP).

In Harare, up to 35 roads are getting a facelift with December being the set target for completion of the rehabilitation project.

Managing Director CMED Engineer Davison Mhaka highlighted that works are also on going in other towns and cities.

In Harare we did the Bosch  granite road in Sunningdale, we also did the Ruwa one and now we doing the Rekai Tangwena to Remembrance Drive which is one of the most busiest roads as it links many industrial sites. We not only rehabilitating in Harare but as we speak in Kwekwe, we have started today and Bulawayo also, he said.

Harare Provincial Engineer Enerst Shenje also spoke on some of the major works underway.

We have engaged more than 35 contractors, come December this year, Harare will be a different city altogether,said Shenje.

Seke road is also being refurbished, while other major roads including the Mbudzi roundabout which feeds into the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway, are set to go under a massive transformation starting this Wednesday.
