Rising female comedian Melissa Makwasha has broken new ground by tackling church issues in a comic way, much to the delight of online audiences.
The versatile artist, who is also a gospel musician, has become the new darling of Zimbabwean comedy, after releasing a series of online skits that church goers identify with.
She says the covid-19 induced lockdown unlocked her acting potential.
“I didn’t have anything to do when Covid-19 hit us last year. That was the beginning of my career. I never thought I would attract so many fans,” she says.
Makwasha, who is overwhelmed by the response she is receiving from her legion of fans, reckons originality is what sells in the creative sector.
“The only key to success is originality. Be yourself and you will never go wrong.”
With her source of inspiration being Madam Boss, Makwasha rose to fame after joining Zimbabwe’s most celebrated gospel outfit, Zimpraise.
