President Emmerson Mnangagwa says the Rio-Zim Cam and Motor Mine Biological Oxidation Plant (BIOX) and Floatation Plant will increase gold production and enable high recoveries of gold from refractory sulphide resources.
He said this while commissioning the US$35 million plant this afternoon.
The President said the investment is a clear indication that the ease of the doing business reforms and other measures being implemented by the Second Republic are bearing fruit.
“The project is a landmark and gives impetus to the realisation of a mining and mineral development ecosystem that will propel our accelerated efforts towards a US$12 billion mining sector by 2023.
“I commend the Rio-Zim Group Board and Management for their determination, zeal and focus that has resulted in the speedy completion of this project. The achievement was in spite of the delays induced by the outbreak of the delays induced by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Well done to you all, congratulations, makorokoto, amhlophe,” he said.
He noted that the extraction of the country’s mineral resources plays an important part in the economic, social and technological development of Zimbabwe through industrial development, employment creation, as well as linkages with the agricultural sector, among others.
The Biological Oxidation Plant attests to the ongoing scaling up and expansion of production works at existing mines, exploration activities, resuscitation of closed mines and opening of new mines, he added.
“I applaud the Rio-Zim Group for this impactful project, which will increase gold production and also enables high recoveries of gold from refractory sulphide resources, which are abundant in the Midlands Greenstones that stretch from Chegutu, here in Mashonaland West Province, through to Bubi-Umguza, in Matabeleland North Province.
“I applaud the company’s corporate social responsibility programmes, which include provision of education and health services infrastructure, among others,” he said.
President Mnangagwa said the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development, among other Department and Agencies, will continue providing timely service to the sector which must see more projects of this nature.
“Together in unity, our Vision of a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income society will be realised.”
He assured investors that Government will continue providing the requisite business environment, for win-win benefits, in line with the “Zimbabwe is open for business” mantra.
