Zimbabwe’s tourism sector is optimistic the relaxed lockdown measures and the reopening of the economy will improve earnings from the domestic market.
The beginning of the year has been characterised by subdued operating conditions for the tourism sector on the back of tight lockdown measures.
Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) acting chief executive officer Givemore Chidzidzi revealed that while the measures were necessary, it is however the relaxed phase and re-opening of the economy that has come as a great relief.
“This is coming at the right time but we still anticipate for more conditions to sustain the sector and unlock more value for all the operators,” he said.
Meanwhile, restaurant owners have appealed for more relaxed Covid -19 measures, including being allowed to operate at half capacity for sit-in customers in order to remain viable.
