THE African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 is targeting to host the Regional Annual National Sports Awards (RASA) ceremony in September following its postponement induced by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The awards ceremony was initially pencilled for the 23rd of May in the Kingdom of Eswatini and is now expected to be held in September to allow countries to deal with the novel pandemic.
AUSC Region 5 Chief Executive Officer is hopeful the situation will improve adding that the processes for the RASA ceremony continue despite the slow pace.
“Our processes for the Regional Annual National Sports Awards ceremony continue although we had to slow them down to allow people whom are still working at home to come back and partake of all the processes that include voting and selection of nominees that will be eligible for the awards. So, we are calling upon all stakeholders to adhere to new time lines that have been circulated so that we celebrate our heroes and heroines in sport. they have done quite a lot and they deserve this recognition for they have flown our flags so high be it at international level or other regional championships,” he explained.
The AUSC Region 5, Regional Annual Sport Awards (RASA) is part of the regional rewards programme aimed at providing a unique opportunity for the region to motivate member states, sports confederations, team’s sports and individual athletes by recognising and celebrating meritorious service and outstanding achievements in sport.
