By ZBC Reporter

ZBC’s Radio Zimbabwe is this Sunday set to hold a marathon shift to raise funds for New Start Orphanage, whose shelter was gutted by fire last month.

Through the programme; Ruoko Runopa, Radio Zimbabwe will this Sunday host a marathon shift from 5am to 8pm to mobilise resources for the construction of the orphanage’s kitchen and dining hall which were reduced to ashes by fire last month.

The producer presenter of the programme, Rutendo Makuti Mubweza spoke on the reason behind the initiative.

This orphanage has assisted a lot of children. On 8 April their kitchen and dining were burnt to ashes and they lost US$500 000 worth of goods. As a station, we are responding to the plight by holding a marathon shift. We will have a number of activities and our listeners will have to pay in order to participate. All the proceeds will be channelled towards the reconstruction of the orphanage, she explained.

Situated in Harare South, New Start Orphanage was established in 1996 by a former missionary, Dr Saleen Farag, whose vision was to empower children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The home currently caters for 100 children.
