REIGNING champions FC Platinum remain the team to beat in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League despite dropping points for the first time in eight matches.
The Platinum miners have built one of the best teams in the league anchored on a strong defence which has not been breached in eight matches.
FC Platinum’s poor start to the season is now a distant memory with the Zvishavane-based side three points clear at the top of the log standings.
It is a remarkable turnaround which has been built on a strong defence which has not conceded in the last eight matches where they have won seven.
All in all FC Platinum have kept an impressive 15 clean sheets this season the most in the league and have conceded just seven goals which is also the least in the league.
Goalkeeper Petros Mhari was injured after keeping nine clean sheets and Wallace Magalane FC Platinum have found an able replacement with the shot-stopper having kept eight clean sheets on the trot.
The defence has also been impressive with either Gift Bello in command or Lawrence Mhlanga partnered by the fast-improving Nomore Chinyerere.
However, FC Platinum are not just a mean defence but have also been scoring for fun having netted a massive 44 goals, the highest number in the Premier Soccer League.
They have also dismantled the best in the league including title contenders Chicken Inn, perennial campaigners Triangle as well as giants CAPS United and Highlanders.
Giants Dynamos have also failed to beat FC Platinum over two matches which both ended in stalemate.
There is no doubt that Mapeza’s charges will be the favourites to collect maximum points in their next match at home to ZPC Kariba on Saturday.
However, match day 22 kicks off on Friday with Herentals hosting Whawha at the National Sports Stadium.
The action continues on Saturday with Cranborne Bullets facing Harare City at Vengere Stadium, Dynamos travel to Bulawayo for a date against Chicken Inn at Barbourfields while Yadah take on Ngezi Platinum at the National Sports Stadium.
Sundays’ fixtures will see Bulawayo City playing Highlanders at Barbourfields while Caps United host Manica Diamonds at the National Sports Stadium.
Triangle United clash with Black Rhinos at Gibbo Stadium as Tenax entertain Bulawayo Chiefs at Vengere.
