LOCAL Rugby action is set to resume this month after the inspection of all match venues by the Zimbabwe Rugby Union.
The Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) executive has been impressed by the state of facilities and general preparedness for resumption of the sport in various provinces.
Teams are currently conducting COVID-19 tests and vaccination as provincial leagues are set to kick off at the end of the month.
“We were pleased with our findings on the ground the provinces are ready and we also gave them COVID-19 essentials to help their return to play. Harare and Mutare leagues will start ahead of Gweru and Bulawayo as the other two just need to polis up on a few things but we are good to go for month end,” said Aaron Jani, Zimbabwe Rugby Union President.
Rugby action is also set to resume with a bang at national level with Zambia and Namibia expected in Zimbabwe for a tournament including juniors, senior women and men sides.
ZRU is also working on curtain raising the test match between world champions, South Africa and European powerhouse, Georgia.
Meanwhile, the national sevens side, the Cheetahs have been drawn in a difficult group for the Olympic qualification repachage tournament in Monaco as they will face Pacific giants Samoa and Tonga as well as unpredictable Ireland and Mexico.
