The Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities says Local authorities must come up with deliberate policies that will see many youths benefitting from housing projects they are implementing across the country.
The government is clear the youths must be the biggest beneficiaries of housing projects being implemented by local authorities.
Officiating at the ground-breaking ceremony of a housing project in Melfort under Goromonzi Rural District Council, the Deputy Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, Honourable Yeukai Simbanegavi called on local authorities to empower youths by ensuring they have access to housing.
“I call on local authorities and developers to deliberately seek to empower youths most of whom have little financial capacity to acquire residential stands and properties,” said the Deputy Minister.
“I am not saying they should be given for free but they must be allowed to benefit and pay in affordable instalments.”
Land developers in Melfort spoke on their targets, while beneficiaries thanked the government for seeking to empower youths through various programmes on a non-partisan basis.
“Melfort is one of the sprouting suburbs, whose development is being spearheaded by the Goromonzi Rural District Council and its partners,” they said.
