THE wheels of the Second Republic’s empowerment drive are in motion after government in partnership with private players provided free medical first aid training as well as availed new modern ambulances for the community of Bulawayo under the Presidential Medical Scheme.

People living with disabilities and vulnerable groups have benefitted from the scheme meant to provide first aid and ambulance services to people around the country.

Beneficiaries applauded government efforts towards capacitating them with knowledge on how to handle emergency medical situations.

“We are grateful to the government and its partners for affording us this opportunity and believing that we can also do what able bodied people can do because saving lives is a responsibility for all of us,” said a beneficiary.

Another added, “Before this training, we didn’t know how to resuscitate someone who has fainted and who to reach for emergency services which is something that we have amongst our disability community.”

Founder and chief executive officer of Discovery Ambulances, Mr David Munowenyu, who brought the services to Bulawayo, said the free medical training and ambulance services feed into government`s vision of providing equitable and improved medical health coverage country wide.

“This inaugural launch is an opportunity to provide free medical training and services to vulnerable communities in the spirit of leaving no one behind in accessing vital medical services. We have brought modern ambulances which accommodate five people at a time in a bid to improve health services in the country,” said Dr Munowenyu.

The Presidential Medical Scheme aligns with government`s aim to bolster public health and ensure universal access to essential medical services.
