The President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa has sent a condolence message following the death of Brigadier General (Retd) Fidelis Satuku.
In a statement the President described the late as a distinguished soldier who gave himself selflessly to the country.
A war time freedom fighter the late distinguished himself as a fighter for freedom in the settler colonial Rhodesia until independence.Thereafter,he attested in the Zimbabwe National Army as a young officer,participating in many of its regional peace keeping operations in countries such as Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo .He continued to serve in a few more international missions until he retired from service,he said.
The President urged the family to derive solace from the fact that the late played a role in the liberation of the country.
On behalf of the Government,Zimbabwe Defence Forces and my own behalf ,i wish to express my deepest condolences to the Satuku family who now have to live without a caring Father.May the derive solace and comfort from the sterling role the dear departed played in liberating and defending our country,he added.
Brigadier General (Retd) Fidelis Satuku passed on at the Military Hospital in Mutare yesterday after a long battle with a kidney ailment.
He was 64.
Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
