The President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially opened the Spodumene Project at Bikita Minerals in Masvingo.

The project is expected to increase lithium output as well as the lifespan of Bikita Minerals.

Spodumene is considered the most important lithium ore mineral.

Chinese firm, Sino Mine is investing US$300 million into the project, which dovetails into Government’s drive towards a US$12 billion mining industry by 2023.

Speaking at a rally after the event, President Mnangagwa said the country has enough grain and no one will starve.

He added, “Government has streamlined requirements for the issuance of national civic documents to make it easier for those who have been facing challenges. We will never reverse our land reform. The land reform is permanent and is irreversible.”

He said his government would love to see all churches teaching all people about the values of peace and unity, “and they should also support the Government and not follow those opposing the ruling party and government.”

The President underscored the value of cells as an important party organ meant to assess the strength of the party.

“The cell is the party. There is no one who does not have a cell when you are called to the cell you must go. If we know the cells, we will know our membership country wide,” he said.

He also assured the people that they will not go hungry despite the compromised yields due to inconsistent rains.

“I asked Chadzamira just how much the province harvested and he asked for help. No one will starve. We have food reserves, what we call our strategic grain reserves.”

The country will, however, continue pushing to be food secure with the President highlighting government projects to build more dams for irrigation.

He also highlighted the importance of peace in national development.

“Let’s be united in Masvingo. There is no development without peace. Elections next year go and vote for ZANU PF. We don’t want noise,” he said.

With the rally taking place soon after the ground-breaking ceremony of the Bikita Spodumene Project, President Mnangagwa told the people that the Second Republic is prioritising community benefits from mining companies.
