President Emmerson Mnangagwa launched the National Agribusiness Conference this Wednesday morning in Harare.

In his remarks, the President encouraged farmers to utilise all the productive land in Zimbabwe.

“The land reform programme is behind us, we must now make every inch, every hectare of that land productive!”

President Mnangagwa said the Agriculture Recovery and Livestock Growth plans are aimed at achieving a US$8bln sector by 2025.

Speaking at the conference, Vice President General (Rtd) C.D. Chiwenga said the transformation of the agriculture sector will take a value chain approach which increases effective and efficient use of available resources.

Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister Dr Anxious Masuka said, “farming must be approached from a business perspective. It is a business. The ministry will ensure a conducive policy and institutional environment for agriculture to thrive.”

The conference comes at a time when the SADC seasonal rainfall forecast is expected to be out this Friday with indications that the next season will be better than the past two.
