President Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially commissioned the Great Zimbabwe University textile factory and laid a foundation stone for the institution’s Industrial Park.
Construction is underway for a sanitiser production plant within the park which is also expected to include food packaging, music instruments manufacturing and water bottling.
The President said construction and setting up of the GZU textile plant shows a deliberate effort to use knowledge innovation and available resources to propel the country’s developmental agenda in line with vision 2030.
Speaking after officially commissioning the factory and laying the foundation stone for the innovation and industrial hub, the President commended the university for producing sanitisers and personal protective equipment, which is critical in the fight to contain the spread of the covid-19 pandemic.
Earlier President Mnangagwa capped graduates at university’s 14th graduation ceremony.
Only limited graduands were capped by the Chancellor of the university in line with covid-19 regulations.
