PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has congratulated the Moot team after they were crowned European champions when they competed against Netherlands in the finals.

In his congratulatory message, President Mnangagwa said the team had done the country proud.

“Another victory for the pride of Zimbabwe! These are the faces of the champions of the 2022 Europe Moot Court. The first African country to compete and the first to win,” said President Mnangagwa on his official twitter page.

The team made up of students from Dominican Convent, Peterhouse, Midlands Christian College and Arundel was gifted US$30 000 by His Excellency before they left for Europe last week.

Nqobile Dube, the team’s coach was ecstatic after their victory.

“We came this far because of all the support we got from the country and I want to show my appreciation to all Zimbabweans  and everyone all over the world that made it possible,” he said.

“The experience was absolutely astronomical. It was a tough battle against Netherlands, but we proved to them that we have talent. We could feel your support all the way from Romania, said Ruvimbo Simbi the team captain.

A moot court simulates a real court where students are made to participate in the staged court proceedings that are related to a fictional dispute between parties.

They are normally conducted in  law school where student will be prepared for when they become lawyers, judges, arbitrators and prosecutors.
