PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has donated 15 tons of rice to each rural constituency to feed the rural populace this festive season following the Elnino-induced drought of 2018/2019 farming season which left communities in need of food aid.
In a statement, the Minister of Public Service, Labour And Social Welfare, Professor Paul Mavima, said his ministry will ensure the rice is distributed during this festive season as grain distribution also continues.
“His Excellency the President of the Second Republic, Cde E.D. Mnangagwa has made a generous donation of 15 tons of Chinese rice to each rural constituency to feed rural populace during the festive season,” reads the statement.
“Distribution of grain will also continue to ensure that no one starves in Zimbabwe during this festive season and beyond.”
The President’s donation fulfills the government’s obligation through the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare to provide social protection service to vulnerable and disadvantaged groups in Zimbabwe through social transfer programmes. This includes among other interventions the provision of food relief to vulnerable households during times of drought and emergencies.
