President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on the Hindu, Jewish and Hellenic Religious group to come on board and join other sectors to mobilise resources to mitigate against the deadly COVID 19.
President Mnangagwa this Tuesday found time with Hindu, Jewish and Hellenic religious leaders to discuss the country’s state of preparedness against Covid 19 at State house in Harare.
The president told the three religious groups that the Covid 19 disease has caused devastating effects to developed countries and as a fragile nation, Zimbabwe is not spared. He said while the pandemic knows no boundaries it is high time that the three religious groups join the nation in mobilising any resources at their disposal.
“trillions of economies have been affected, our country is fragile as it has been isolated for two decades as a result of sanctions, it is time for everyone of us to put hands on the deck, lets mobilise other churches have even pledged their infrastructure to be used as isolation centres so we expect that you take the work to your society and do what you can, appeals the president.’’
The three religious groups promised to do their best to rally their members to support the Covid 19 taskforce in mobilising resources.
Covid 19 has so far infected more than 1.2 million people the world over recording about 80 thousand deaths.
In Africa, about 10 thousand people have been infected recording about 300 deaths. To deal with the outbreak the president has set an inter-ministerial taskforce on Covid 19 chaired by vice president kembo mohadi and deputised by cde oppah muchinguri kashiri who will meet on a daily basis to response and implement mitigatory measures against the pandemic.
