PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has donated two thousand tonnes of coal to five referral hospitals in Bulawayo and Matabeleland North Province.
Mpilo, Victoria Falls, St Luke’s, United Bulawayo Hospitals and Ingutsheni are the five referral health centres that took delivery of the coal sourced by President Mnangagwa from Hwange mining firm Makomo Resources.
The President, last month went to Hwange on a two-day working visit in which he toured the country’s largest thermal coal producer Makomo Resources among other projects.
Mpilo Acting Chief Executive Officer, Professor Solwayo Ngwenya welcomed the coal donation, saying it will play an integral role in ensuring quality service delivery at the hospital.
”We are humbled by this donation. It will go a long way in enabling service delivery at the hospital,” he said
The two ministers of state from the beneficiary provinces also commended the goodwill from the head of state and government.
”We are grateful for the support Bulawayo is getting to enable health service delivery,” said Hon. Judith Ncube, the Bulawayo minister of state for provincial affairs
”The gesture by his Excellency is an assurance of the commitment to health service delivery by the New dispensation,” thanked Minister Richard Moyo, the Matabeleland North Minister of state for provincial affairs.
As the nation battles the Covid-19 pandemic, public health institutions needs have also increased.
Government has, however, continued mobilising support for the institutions which are the backbone of health service delivery.
