PREPARATION for the Zimbabwe National Day set for the March 14 at the ongoing Expo 2020 Dubai is progressing well with the country expected to exhibit its culture and identity to the global community.

As Zimbabwe continues to pursue its engagement and re-engagement agenda, significant strides have been made to ensure that the national day slated for March 14 at the expo is a success.

The country’s exhibition pavilion is strategically located at the heart of the Expo village, with the Great Zimbabwe site being the inspiration behind its outlook.

Commissioner General for the Expo 2020 Dubai Ambassador Mary Mubi says despite the ban on international flights from Zimbabwe in November last year which stalled progress, the delegation in Dubai is confident Zimbabwe Day will be a success.

“The ban on travellers from Zim and other countries from SADC affected in November somewhat affected our programmes at the Zimbabwe pavilion, there was a tourism event that had to be cancelled because we did not have enough manpower.

“Despite the travel ban, we had quite a large number come through to the pavilion because the UAE experienced a surge in tourists during the Christmas period. Concerning the lift of the ban, we are looking to implement programmes and these include trade and investment, health, agriculture, currently, we have an art exhibition that was opened by our ambassador in Abu Dhabi.

“We are also looking towards tourism events at the beginning of March which we are busy planning we also have a business forum which is part of the national day and we are trying to learn what others have done and the national day will be the culmination of our participation at expo 2020 Dubai.”

She added that entertainment enthusiasts will not be disappointed as various artists are set to perform at the expo.

“We have one artist sponsored to perform here in UAE, Jah Prayzah will also be here and we know that many people will be excited to attend this concert so we have a fairly packed programme.”

The ongoing Expo 2020 Dubai, is running under the theme: “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” while Zimbabwe is running under the theme “Zimbabwe, the land of a great people”, an extension of Zimbabwe is open for business mantra.
