THE Chiredzi pre-school owner who left two children to suffocate in car truck has appeared in court facing charges of murder, attempted murder and violation of the Education Act.
Zhuwakina Javangwe, aged 53 from Westwood in Chiredzi appeared before Magistrate Misheck Brian Munyaradzi and was not asked to plead.
The court heard that on the 23rd of this month at around 6am, the accused collected ten children from their various homes with four of them in the trunk of her Honda CRV vehicle.
Allegations are that she dropped the children who were sitting on the passenger seats and forgot the other four who were in the trunk before she locked the vehicle.
It is alleged that at around 12 midday when the accused was about to clean the vehicle, she realised that the four children were still in the vehicle before being told by the other two that the now deceased were sleeping in the vehicle’s trunk.
The state further alleges that Javangwe then opened the trunk of the vehicle and noticed that the two children were no-longer breathing.
They were pronounced dead upon arrival at Chiredzi district hospital which led to the arrest of the accused.
Javangwe was remanded in custody to the 9th of next month.
