THE POSTAL and telecommunications regulatory authority of Zimbabwe -Potraz is stepping up efforts to close the digital gap by establishing additional mobile telecommunication base stations in marginalised communities.
The regulatory authority’s Head of Consumer Affairs and Publicity, George Manyaya told Zbc news that Potraz is committed to closing the digital gap having established 20 base stations through the Universal Services Fund.
“We are working towards bridging the digital divide as testified by the increase in the country”s mobile and internet penetration rates,” said Manyaya.
Meanwhile, Potraz Director-General, Dr Gift Machengete has rallied those with brilliant minds to take advantage of the availability of an Innovation Fund and come up with prototypes which the authority can support financially.
“We encourage you(innovators) to come up with solutions which Potraz will fund through the Innovation Fund. You will be given seed capital in the form of grants,” said Dr Machengete.
The country is leaving no stone unturned in the drive towards the fourth industrial revolution which is anchored in innovation.
