THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has expressed readiness to conduct the 3rd of February by-elections with all hands on deck to fulfil the constitutional mandate.

Briefing the media this Thursday, ZEC deputy chairperson, Ambassador Rodney Kiwa revealed that resources have been secured for the plebiscite.

“ZEC is equally prepared to execute duties with issues from the Supreme Court in mind, we are ready to follow the law. We understand that the High Court disqualified 23 candidates and we have 5 wards that go unopposed. We did publicise that already.”

The ballot paper has been secured in accordance with the law, while accreditation of local and foreign observers also opened.

“230 400 ballot papers for 6 national assemblies have been printed, that include 6.7% contingency as required by the law, 136 000 for local authorities. We are 100% ready and accreditation of journalists is being done at various centres,” added Ambassador Kiwa.

Six National Assembly constituencies and 23 local authority wards will hold by-elections this Saturday which came as a result of recalls from the CCC party.
