The ruling party backs production-oriented organisations

Story by Wellington Makonese

THE ruling ZANU PF party has pledged to support development-oriented affiliate organisations which support the attainment of national goals.

This comes as farmer organisations including Farmers for Economic Development have stepped up efforts to contribute to the national basket through urban farming.

“We are maximizing production in the urban setups through fisheries, bee keeping in areas where there are small spaces. The Agriculture 8.0 model is assisting youth with farms utilising small spaces for productivity. Mari haibvi in politics but activity generating export, we want to support with production,” said Phillipa Jaya, national head of Harare Farmers for Economic Development.

The agriculture sector, which is the backbone of the country’s economy, has witnessed tremendous growth under the Second Republic as a result of key policy interventions that encourage maximum productivity.

“We are looking at expanding and ensuring that we produce more for export and right now, we have a constituency of close to a million countrywide,” said Tapiwa Chitate.

ZANU PF National Political Commissar Cde Mike Bimha highlighted that development-oriented organisations have the full backing of the party.

“With your hands, you can produce and earn serving family and community. As urban farmers it’s commendable, we want affiliates of your mould to help yourselves through production. As a party working with the government, we will aid your development, we help those who help themselves. Your thrust is to ensure that the helping government continues to reign,” he said.

The revolutionary ZANU PF party is spearheading a number of development initiatives, including supporting farmers with the view of achieving food and nutrition security as prescribed under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Number 2.
