Electorate calls on aspiring candidates to prioritise people’s needs

Story by Yolanda Moyo

THE electorate in the Lobengula-Magwegwe constituency has rallied aspiring candidates in the upcoming December 9 by-elections to prioritise people’s needs.

With a few days left before the nation holds by-elections on December 9, the electorate in Lobengula-Magwegwe constituency agrees on the need for a development-oriented parliamentary representative.

Issues such as water challenges, poor housing infrastructure, implementation of policies that provide safety nets for the elderly and poor road networks were raised.

“We are living in poor conditions in our constituency. We vote for people and they disappear. We want development in our community. For decades our needs have been ignored by people that we vote for. We want change in our area, our roads are poor and these are old suburbs,” said members of the community.

For many, there is a need to revive youth centres and recreational facilities as most of the infrastructure has become white elephants.

Residents say these facilities play a key role in curbing delinquency in the area.

“Our children are idle, yesteryear we used to have youth clubs functioning fully with our children going there to spend time but youths are now drug and substance abusers. We want a representative that will look into these issues once elected into power.”

The Ereck Gono, Tendai Nyathi from the Citizens Coalition for Change and ZANU PF’s Menziwa Dube are vying for the Lobengula-Magwegwe parliamentary seat.
