The Zimbabwe Republic Police has warned individuals, especially business people, against keeping huge sums of money at home to avoid falling prey to robbers.
The warning comes after a Chinhoyi based businessman lost US$60 000 to robbers on Tuesday.
The businessman was attacked by a gang of eight armed robbers who also drove off in the family’s vehicle which was later recovered along the Chinhoyi-Chegutu highway.
Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi advised property owners to scale up security at their premises.
“We urge business people to desist from keeping large sums of money at their homes. In most of the cases where they are targeted, usually the robbers will have been well informed on the availability of large sums of money. We also want to urge business people to scale up security at their homes.”
Besides the cash, the family also lost accessories such as cellphones.
