FIVE police officers who could not resist the temptation to reap where they did not sow have appeared in court facing charges of theft involving more than US$ 10 000.

Walter Mapfumo, Simbarashe Ndungwa, Erasmus Shoniwa, Archby Mano and Webster Ticharwa stationed at the Harare Central Police Station were granted 500 dollars bail each when they appeared at the Harare Magistrates court this Thursday.

It is the state’s case that the five approached the complainant who was in possession of US$18 060 which he intended to give someone and told him he was under arrest for an undisclosed crime.

It is further alleged that they took the complainant to Harare Central Police Station where they assigned another officer to count the money before releasing him.

However, upon release, the complainant discovered that US$ 10 000 was missing and he reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the accused.
