By Gay Matambo
TWO police officers from Masvingo have appeared in court facing charges of armed robbery and extortion.
Allegations are that on the 4th of this month the two police officers, Pius Nyarumbwa and Austin Mharakurwa received information that the complainants, Garlos Chirindo and Kudakwashe Huchu were panning for gold at Beep one mountain, Wimpy area in Masvingo.
The two then proceeded to Beep one mountain dressed in police uniform and armed with rifles but the complainants fled the scene upon seeing the police officers.
It is further alleged that the following day, the co-accused went to Beep one mountain with a vehicle and started loading the gold ore.
However, the complainants got information of what was transpiring before proceeding to the area but it is alleged that they were severely assaulted before the co-accused went to Gold Source mine where they milled the gold ore and got 2.2 grammes of gold valued at 52 United States Dollars.
A police report was made on the seventh of this month which led to the arrest of the police officers who have since been remanded in custody to the 4th of next month.
