THE Platinum derby pitting FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum kicks-off a potentially exciting weekend in the Premier Soccer league to be capped off by the Battle of the Cities between Caps United and Highlanders.
The two platinum sides have 12 points apiece after seven matches and will be looking to get an early advantage in their mini rivalry when they clash at Mandava Stadium this Saturday.
Not much separates the two sides on head to head statistics after meeting only eight times in the league since Ngezi Platinum joined the big boys in 2016.
FC Platinum have a slight edge over their rivals with four wins, while Ngezi won three, with only one match ending in a draw.
While FC Platinum recently beat their rivals in the Chibuku Super Cup final, head coach Norman Mapeza is not reading much into that.
“It is a new game all together, but we have a different team so we also need to do well as a team, Ngezi has so much talent so we need to be careful,” said Norman Mapeza, FC Platinum Coach.
In other matches set for this Saturday, high riding Chicken in take on Black Rhinos at Luveve, while revitalised Dynamos have a tricky assignment against ZPC Kariba at the National Sports Stadium with the last match of the day being a clash of struggling sides Yadah and Bulawayo City at Baobab.
Sunday will see the Battle of the Cities taking centre stage at National Sports Stadium as Caps United host rivals Highlanders
Harare City travel to Bulawayo to face Bulawayo Chiefs at Luveve, Tenax host Herentals at Sakubva stadium in Mutare while Triangle entertain Whawha at Gibbo.
Cranborne Bullets and Manica Diamonds will conclude the weekend’s action with a match slatted for Baobab Stadium.
