The climate-proof Pfumvudza/ Intwasa programme has brought relief to farmers in Chihota, where despite the prolonged dry spell experienced in February, they have a good crop and are anticipating good yields.

For Mr and Mrs Zinyama of Ward 14 in Chihota, Marondera, the coming in of the climate proof Pfumvudza Intwasa programme has made a difference between their crops and that of some of their neighbours.

The farmers’ crop was judged the best Pfumvudza crop in the area despite the dry spell which affected some crops.

“We thank the government for the crop as the Pfumvudza programme has helped us in our crop, Pfumvudza is the best thing ever to happen to our agriculture and we are going to harvest a good crop this season,” says Sekuru Tamanikwa Zinyama.

The Zinyamas and some farmers in the area who also had a good crop were awarded with various prizes.

A total of 329 000 households benefitted from the Pfumvudza/ Intwasa programme in Mashonaland East this summer cropping season.
