Pedestrian dies after being hit by a car

A pedestrian died on the spot along Seke Road after being hit by an allegedly speeding vehicle which was travelling towards Chitungwiza.

Hatfield residents and pedestrians were baying for the blood of a BMW X6 driver who is reported to have been speeding before hitting a pedestrian who died on the spot at the intersection of Seke Road and Northway Drive this Tuesday afternoon.

The vehicle is understood to have been part of Socialite Passion Java’s convoy of three cars and the driver is reported to have been rushing to the airport to pick up the businessman who had just arrived at the Robert Mugabe International Airport.

When the ZBC News Crew arrived at the accident scene, the body of the deceased was still lying on the tarmac with the car which was damaged on the front right side still on the site.

Eye witnesses gave an account of what transpired in the unfortunate incident.

“The car was speeding and the driver was very negligent approaching a robot. This is human error on the part of the driver because he was speeding and a. innocent lady was hit,” said an eye witness.

Zimbabwe Republic Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

“We received sad news of a lady aged plus or minus 20 who was hit by a BMW X6 while trying to cross the road along Seke Road. She died on the spot due to head injuries she sustained. Our police officers are now investigating the matter,” said Nyathi.

The body of the deceased was later removed by police officers who attended the accident scene.
