Parly Committee commends state of preparedness at Wilkins Hospital

THE Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Health and Child Care has commended the state of preparedness at Wilkins Hospital and the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
Speaking during a tour at Wilkins Hospital this Wednesday to assess the state of preparedness in the event of any case of Corona virus, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Health and Child Care, Dr Ruth Labode commended the hospital on the mechanisms put in place.
The Committee was being accompanied by Harare City Health Director, Dr Prosper Chonzi who briefed the committee on the latest development concerning the Thailand national who escaped from Wilkins Hospital on Sunday only to return to the hospital two days later for tests.
“We are happy to announce that the Thailand national who escaped from this hospital returned and he has tested negative,” said Dr Chonzi.
The Committee also toured Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport where they were taken through health safety steps at the country’s biggest airport.
The Corona virus has so far claimed thousands of lives, especially in China, with numerous cases having also been recorded in Africa, while Zimbabwe has no reported case of the virus so far.
