Oxygen gas tanks to be installed at all district and general hospitals

Government has embarked on a massive infrastructure development programme for health institutions, with isolation centres being constructed countrywide.

A visit to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital in Mutare by Vice President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga, revealed some great improvements at the health facility.

“Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital has refurbished and repurposed the casualty department to create a covid-19 isolation unit with potential fourteen intensive care units and 14 ordinary beds there.

“The recently installed a 10 000 kilogramme oxygen tank is now servicing the isolation ward with plans to connect to the whole hospital,” he said.

Zimbabwe has managed to contain the spread of the Covid-19 over the past months, with the cumulative number of cases now at 38 414.

The virus has claimed 1 576 lives, while 36 052 have recovered.

509 274 people have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
